Georgia O'Keefe's sensuous use of color and rounded forms makes her paintings of flowers unique and non-traditional. She painted her subjects in extreme close-up views that abstracted and exaggerated the anatomy of these flowers. Here a dark purple pansy has been painted with smooth brushstrokes that reveal the curve of the petals, while a green leaf peeks out from beneath the flower to add a shot of contrasting color.
